News: Watch The Throne” Album Deal Sucks For Indie Retailers.

The Throne is so exclusive it can only be watched and, more importantly, purchased at Best Buy. The BBC reports that Jay-Z and Kanye West’s much hyped Watch The Throne album will be sold digitally exclusively via iTunes on August 8th, and – in a move that’s prompted hostile reaction from indie retailers – in physical form exclusively via Best Buy for a near-two week period thereafter. According to Billboard, between the two exclusive iTunes and Best Buy release windows, 75% of the demand for WTT is expected to be met within 10 days.
An open letter to The Throne posted by the organizers of Record Store Day and signed by independent shop-owners across the country voices opposition to Jay and Kanye’s deal and asks the rap superstars to consider the adverse effect it will inevitably have on already struggling mom and pop record shops:
“As representatives of the independent record store music community, we are asking you to allow record stores and music fans equal access to your new album.”
